Regional Unemployment Rate Announced for September 2023

More than $200,000 Available for Training Opportunities and Financial Aid

 

GADSDEN, LEON, & WAKULLA COUNTIES, FL – According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties was 3.1 percent for September 2023. This rate was 0.4 percentage point greater than the region’s year ago rate of 2.7 percent and was 0.1 percentage point above the state rate of 3.0 percent.  

 

Wakulla County’s unemployment rate remained the lowest in the Capital Region at 2.8 percent. Leon County followed at 3.0 percent, and Gadsden County at 3.8 percent.  

 

In September, the labor force was 207,056 up 7,998 (+4.0 percent) over the year. There were 6,387 unemployed residents in the region. 
 

The top six advertised occupations in the Capital Region in September 2023 were:
 

  • Registered Nurses
  • Retail Salespersons
  • Sales Representatives, Wholesale and Manufacturing, Except Technical and Scientific Products
  • First-Line Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers
  • Software Developers
  • Customer Service Representatives


More than $200,000 is available for adults who are eager to upskill or change careers and have low household income, through the Talent & Training solutions program. Individuals interested in pursuing training may qualify for up to $10,000 in financial assistance provided by CareerSource Capital Region in more than 100 educational programs.

 

Top training programs last year include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Commercial Driver License (CDL)
  • Phlebotomy
  • Clinical Medical Assisting
  • Firefighter
  • Aviation Airframe Mechanics

By participating in the Talent & Training Solutions program, completing a short term or secondary education isn’t the only benefit. Adults gain:
