City of Tallahassee Issues National Apprenticeship Week Proclamation
Apprenticeships Yield Results for Businesses and Career Seekers
Tallahassee, Fla. – The 9th Annual National Apprenticeship Week will take place from Nov. 13 to 19, 2023. Locally, the City of Tallahassee has issued a proclamation declaring Tallahassee officially recognizes National Apprenticeship Week, November 13-19, 2023. As part of this recognition, Mayor John E. Daley is encouraging local businesses, educational institutions and government agencies to collaborate on the creation of additional apprenticeship and work-based learning opportunities that benefit both the businesses and citizens.
Mayor Daley presented the proclamation to CareerSource Capital Region’s CEO, Jim McShane earlier this month in a one-on-one meeting. To view the proclamation, click here.
“Apprenticeships have always been an important talent pipeline in industries such as construction and manufacturing, and over recent years, many more employers are introducing apprenticeships in non-traditional industries such as healthcare and IT,” said Jim McShane, CEO at CareerSource Capital Region. “Apprenticeships bolster employee engagement, ensure appropriate training of staff, and result in highly effective and engaged employees. 90% of apprentices remain employed with employers who trained them.”
In Florida, from July 2022 through June 2023 there were:
303 Apprenticeship programs
62 Pre-apprenticeship programs
17,435 Apprentices in Florida
2,170 Pre-apprentices in Florida
36 New apprenticeship programs created
12 New pre-apprenticeship programs created
In addition, Florida businesses that have an apprenticeship, pre-apprenticeship or student intern program may be eligible for a tax credit against the Florida corporate income/franchise tax for 2022 through 2025! The credit amount is $2,000 per eligible position to a maximum of $10,000 per year. A total of $2.5 million in credits is available for each of the four years.
