REGIONAL UNEMPLOYMENT RATE CONTINUES TO DROP

Employers Still Seeking Candidates for Many Vacant Positions

TALLAHASSEE, FL – According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties was 3.7 percent for August 2018.

The region’s rate was 0.1 percent lower than the states rate of 3.8 percent for August 2018. Wakulla County’s unemployment rate remained the lowest in the Capital Region at 3.2 percent. Leon County followed at 3.6 percent. Gadsden County was at 4.7 percent. There were a total of 6,776 unemployed residents in the Capital Region.


The top five advertised occupations in the Capital Region in August 2018 were as follows:

  • Registered Nurses
  • Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Drivers
  • Computer Systems Analysts
  • Retail Salespersons
  • First-Line Supervisors of Office and Administrative Support Workers

“There are more than 500 open positions in the capital region currently posted in Employ Florida.  In the upcoming weeks and months, CareerSource Capital Region is planning recruitment events for several employers who have multiple job vacancies,” said Trish Yahn, Client and Business Solutions Manager at CareerSource Capital Region. “The open positions employers are looking to fill include food service workers, certified nursing assistants, patient care technicians, unit secretaries, correctional officers, and greenhouse/agricultural specialists.”
