Regional Unemployment Rate Announced for SEPTEMBER 2020

Capital Area Veterans Invited to Veterans Express Event in Advance of

National Veterans and Military Families Month

 

TALLAHASSEE, FL – According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the unemployment rate in the CareerSource Capital region (Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties) was 4.9 percent in September 2020. Wakulla County had the lowest unemployment rate (3.6 percent), followed by Leon County (4.9 percent) and Gadsden County (6.1 percent).

 

The region’s September 2020 4.9 percent unemployment rate was 1.9 percentage point higher than the region's year ago rate of 3.0 percent and 2.7 percentage point lower than the state’s September rate of 7.6 percent. The labor force was 181,199, down 11,457 (-5.9) over the year. There were 8,889 unemployed residents in the region.

 

The top five advertised occupations in the Capital Region in September 2020 were:
 

  • Sales Representatives, Wholesale and Manufacturing, Except Technical and Scientific
  • Retail Salesperson
  • Registered Nurses
  • Software Developers, Applications
  • First-Line Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers

 

The top five direct employers by online ads in the Capital Region in September 2020 were:

  • State of Florida
  • Florida State University
  • HCA
  • Trulieve
  • TMH

 

Although the regional unemployment rate remains high, the number of jobs available within the capital area also remains high with over 500 vacancies currently posted in Employ Florida.

 

To assist military veterans in preparing for careers in civilian life, CareerSource Capital Region will host a virtual Veteran Express: Pivot, Step, Rise Above lunch and learn on Friday, October 30, 2020 from 11:30a.m. until 1:00p.m. This event will feature:
