REGIONAL UNEMPLOYMENT RATE ANNOUNCED FOR SEPTEMBER 2016

 

Upcoming Paychecks for Patriots event highlights opportunities available throughout the Capital Region
 

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – CareerSource Capital Region CEO Jim McShane announced today that the Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties’ combined unemployment rate was 4.9% in September 2016, according to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

This rate is 0.1% lower than the region’s rate of 5.0% from one year ago and is 0.1% lower than the state’s rate for September 2016. Wakulla County’s unemployment rate of 4.1% was the lowest in the region, followed by Leon County at 4.8%, and Gadsden County at 6.1%.

“We are pleased to see the decrease in unemployment rates across our region,” said Jim McShane, CareerSource Capital Region CEO. “The decrease exemplifies the variety of opportunities throughout Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties.”

As a part of an ongoing effort to connect employers to the talent they need, CareerSource Capital Region is pleased to present Paychecks for Patriots in honor of Hire a Vet Month on November 10, 2016, at the Tallahassee Community College Center for Workforce Development from 9:30am to 12:30pm.

At this event, career seekers will be able to speak with over 20 employers who are hiring in a variety of industries. This event also provides Veterans and their families with exclusive access to the employers during the first hour of the event. Candidates should bring several copies of their resume and dress for an interview. Free professional headshots will also be available at the event. In addition to a decrease from September 2015, the Department of Economic Opportunity also provided the following positive economic indicators for our region:

  • The professional and business services (+5.3 percent); financial activities (+4.3 percent); and other services (+3.4 percent) industries grew as fast as or faster in the metro area than statewide over the year.
  • Out of a labor force of 184,333 there were 8,950 unemployed residents in the region.
  • The industries gaining in jobs over the year were: professional and business services (+1,000 jobs); leisure and hospitality (+700 jobs); education and health services (+600 jobs); financial activities (+300 jobs); other services (+300 jobs); trade, transportation, and utilities (+200 jobs); mining, logging, and construction (+100 jobs).
