Regional Unemployment Rate Announced for October 2020

CareerSource Capital Region offers eligible career seekers

 training and paid work experience opportunities.

               

TALLAHASSEE, FL– According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties was 5.1 percent for October 2020.

 

The region’s October 2020 unemployment rate was 2.2 percentage point higher than the region’s year ago rate of 2.9 percent. Wakulla County’s unemployment rate remained the lowest in the Capital Region at 3.5 percent, Leon County followed at 5.1 percent, and Gadsden County was at 6.4 percent. There were a total of 9,365 unemployed residents in the Capital Region.
 

The top six advertised occupations in the Capital Region in October 2020 were as follows:
 

  • Sales Representatives, Wholesale & Manufacturing, Except Technical and Scientific Products
  • Software Developers, Applications
  • Retail Salespersons
  • Registered Nurses
  • Customer Service Representatives
  • Managers, All Other
  • First-Line Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers

 

The job market is rapidly changing and evolving, and it is important for career seekers to stay informed and identify how to grow as changes occur. For eligible individuals, CareerSource Capital Region can pay educational expenses for training in areas such as commercial truck driving, medical assisting, pharmacy or dental tech, information technology, culinary arts, etc.  In addition to the financial assistance for training, CareerSource Capital Region can also assist eligible individuals by placing them on-the-job in a temporary work experience program to help enhance their technical and employability skills. These temporary jobs can last up to 240 hours, and many times, they can turn into full time positions with the employer.  In the capital region, finding, training and retaining skilled workers is one of the top issues employers are facing. Career seekers interested in learning new skills become great candidates for promotions or can ease the transition to a new profession.
