Regional Unemployment Rate Announced for MAY 2021

 

Race to Place! - CareerSource Capital Region’s #RacetoPlace Jobs Initiative Is Putting People to Work!

           

TALLAHASSEE, FL – According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties was 4.5 percent for May 2021.The region’s May 2021 unemployment rate was 4.4 percent lower than the region’s year ago rate of 8.9 percent and was 0.5 percentage lower to the state’s rate of 5.0 percent. Wakulla County’s unemployment rate is the lowest in the Capital Region at 3.5 percent. Leon County followed at 4.5 percent. Gadsden County was at 5.5 percent. There were a total of 8,634 unemployed residents in the Capital Region.
 

The top six advertised occupations in the Capital Region in May 2021 were as follows:
 

  • Registered Nurses
  • Software Developers, Applications
  • Medical & Health Services Managers
  • Information Technology Project Managers
  • Computer Systems Analysis
  • Computer User Support Specialists

 

There are more than 60 vacant and unique positions featured weekly with local employers through CareerSource Capital Region’s #RacetoPlace initiative.

Wakulla County currently has the lowest unemployment rate in the capital area, at 3.5%; and, there are several new businesses that have opened recently or are about to open in Wakulla County. CareerSource Capital Region is working closely with many of them to find the talent they need.

 

“Wakulla is a tight-knit community and our businesses work together with new and innovative methods to gain and keep local talent,” said Wakulla County Commissioner Quincee Messersmith (District 4). “We have employment opportunities in our county with over 300 positions available. Our local CareerSource center has resources and methods laid out to help our residents secure competitive wages and reach the finish line!”
