July 25 is National Hire a Veteran Day, and CareerSource Capital Region affirms its commitment to helping veterans reintegrate into society by overcoming barriers and finding success in life and with civilian careers. Through its Veterans Program, veterans in Florida’s capital area receive career services at no cost to them and are connected with employers – especially veteran-friendly employers – who understand the value military veterans bring to their organizations.

As they transition from military service to the civilian labor market, military veterans face many hurdles. Some do not have higher education degrees and often have challenges in translating their military experience to civilian workplaces. Many are also struggling with physical disabilities, mental health challenges or other injuries suffered during their military service.

“In July, and all throughout the year, our team of dedicated professionals are eager to serve military veterans,” said Jim McShane, CEO of CareerSource Capital Region and Vietnam Veteran.  “Florida has the third largest population of veterans in the nation, and our veterans bring in more than $18.4 billion in federal dollars annually into Florida’s economy. This has earned Florida the reputation of the most veteran-friendly state in the nation.  CareerSource Capital Region is doing its part by helping military veterans throughout the capital area navigate the myriad of services available to them as well as secure employment opportunities.”

CareerSource Capital Region assists veterans with resumes, interviews, and one-on-one guidance to navigate various social service programs addressing barriers to employment like homelessness, justice involvement, lack of education, healthcare needs, etc.

Additionally, CareerSource Capital Region recognizes veteran-friendly employers each year.  In 2022, Florida Department of Corrections was recognized.  Find other veteran-friendly employers that have been recognized here.

Between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023, CareerSource Capital Region assisted 383 veterans by providing 3,261 services.  For that same period, CareerSource Capital Region verified that 23 of the veterans were placed into jobs.
