REGIONAL UNEMPLOYMENT RATE ANNOUNCED FOR JANUARY 2019

CareerSource Capital Region to host Leaders Evolve and Develop Training Program

TALLAHASSEE, FL – According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties was 3.9 percent for January 2019, which is 0.1 percent less than January 2018.

The region’s rate was equal to the state’s rate of 3.9 percent for January 2019. Wakulla County’s unemployment rate remained the lowest in the Capital Region at 3.6 percent. Leon County followed at 3.8 percent. Gadsden County was at 5.0 percent. There were a total of 7,376 unemployed residents in the Capital Region.

The top six advertised occupations in the Capital Region in January 2019 were as follows:

  • Registered Nurses
  • Retail Salesperson
  • First-Line Supervisors of Retail Sales Workforce
  • Customer Service Representatives
  • First-Line Supervisors of Food Preparation and Serving Workers
  • Software Developers, Applications

“Although the unemployment rate is low in the Capital Region, statistics show that 71% of Millennials expect to leave their employer in the next two years. And, statistics also show that most employees leave their employer due to dissatisfaction with leadership,” stated Kara Palmer Smith, Senior Director of CareerSource Capital Region. “To combat turnover, employers must develop their leaders and managers.  That’s the number one reason we’re offering our Leaders Evolve and Develop (LEAD) Training Program.”
