Regional Unemployment Rate Announced for DECEMBER 2021

Financial Aid Available for Short-Term Training Programs That Lead to Successful Jobs -You May Qualify

 

TALLAHASSEE, FL – According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties was 3.5 percent for December 2021. The region’s December 2021 unemployment rate was 0.1 percent higher than the region’s year ago rate of 3.4 percent.  Wakulla County’s unemployment rate is the lowest in the Capital Region at 2.8 percent. Leon County followed at 3.4 percent. Gadsden County was at 4.6 percent. There were a total of 6,734 unemployed residents in the Capital Region.
 

Florida’s unemployment rate was 4.4 percent  in December 2021 and the U.S. unemployment rate was 3.9 percent.  

 

The top six advertised occupations in the Capital Region in December 2021 were as follows:
 

  • Registered Nurses
  • Software Developers, Applications
  • Managers, All Other
  • Sales Representatives, Wholesale and Manufacturing, Except Technical and Scientific Products
  • Retail Salespersons
  • Customer Service Representatives

Short-term training opportunities include programs that take less than two years to complete that provide a competitive advantage in the job market.

In addition, individuals interested in pursuing training may qualify for up to $10,000 in financial aid from CareerSource Capital Region.  The organization reports it can help pay for tuition, books, fees, and supplies in more than 100 educational programs for eligible individuals.

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
  • Firefighter
  • Welding
  • Practical Nursing
  • Culinary Arts
