Regional Unemployment Rate Announced for December 2020

CareerSource Capital Region Invites Young Adults Ages 16-24 to Attend the

Dynamic Futures Virtual Career Expo on February 11th

           

TALLAHASSEE, FL– According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties was 5.3 percent for December 2020.

 

The region’s December 2020 unemployment rate was 2.7 percentage point higher than the region’s year ago rate of 2.6 percent. The region's unemployment rate was 0.5 percentage point lower than the state rate of 5.8 percent. Wakulla County’s unemployment rate remained the lowest in the Capital Region at 3.6 percent, Leon County followed at 5.2 percent, and Gadsden County was at 7.0 percent. There were a total of 9,541 unemployed residents in the Capital Region.
 

The top six advertised occupations in the Capital Region in December 2020 were as follows:
 

  • Software Developers, Applications
  • Sales Representatives, Wholesale & Manufacturing, Except Technical and Scientific Products
  • Retail Salespersons
  • Managers, All Other
  • Customer Service Representatives
  • First-Line Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers
  • Registered Nurses

“At the Dynamic Futures Career Expo, young adults have the opportunity to shine. Since the start of the pandemic, many have felt anxious and discouraged when it comes to finding a job and being able to move forward into adulthood,” said Jecheta Blackshear, Dynamic Futures Specialist at CareerSource Capital Region. “We have resources available, such as paid work experience & financial assistance for training opportunities and we are ready to assist each individual begin their journey to a successful career. On February 11th, they will have the chance to meet with local employers who are interested in hiring them and gain great professional experience.”

 

Individuals interested in attending the Virtual Career Expo are encouraged to register and contact their local CareerSource Capital Region career center prior to the event to create or update their resume, schedule an appointment to use computers if needed, and learn strategies for making great first impressions.
