LEAP (Learn, Earn & Advance Program) for Youth and Young Adults Announced by CareerSource Capital Region

GADSDEN, LEON & WAKULLA COUNTIES, Fla.– CareerSource Capital Region welcomes local youth and young adults (ages 16 – 24) who are not enrolled in high school or college to learn new skills and earn money in 30 days or less through the LEAP paid internship program.

In our region, a lack of education and skills prevents most teens and young adults from entering the job market. In this program, eligible young adults have the opportunity to enroll in a 5-week soft skills & financial literacy curriculum and paid internships of up to 480 hours earning up to $6,242.

In the Capital Region, statistics indicate that there are 624 disconnected youth between 16-19 not in school, not high school graduates or are either unemployed or not in the labor force (Chmura JobsEQ). Although statics are not currently available, if individuals ages 20-24 who are not in school, not high school graduates or are either unemployed or not in the labor force are added, there are likely more than 1,000 residents in the capital area who are likely eligible to participate with LEAP.

Within this program, employers are eager to meet individuals who are new to the workforce and provide opportunities for participants to gain essential skills for employment. At their nearest CareerSource career center, young adults also can improve employability with assistance perfecting résumé writing and interviewing skills, establish career goals, and even pursue customized career training. These services are provided at no cost to job seekers.

By participating in the LEAP program, young adults gain:

  • Real-world work experience
  • Improved interpersonal communication skills
  • Career choice advice and educational guidance
  • Mentors & role models
  • Connections for future career opportunities
  • Resume building for future jobs or school applications
  • Interview practice

Participants benefit from a source of income through paid internships and gain skills necessary for professional success.

“We are excited to offer the Capital Region this exciting and valuable service the ‘Learn Earn and Advance Program (LEAP)’, that can help change the lives of our youth and young adults for the better!” said John Hershey, Managing Director at CareerSource Capital Region. “The opportunity to gain new skills and earn an income from some of the best employers in the region, through paid internships, can make all the difference in getting that first career opportunity.
