Regional Unemployment Rate Announced for December 2022

CareerSource Capital Region has $275,000 available for

Paid Internships for eligible young adults ages 16 - 24

               

GADSDEN, LEON & WAKULLA COUNTIES, Fla. – According to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, the regional unemployment rate for Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties was 2.2 percent for December 2022.

 

The region’s December 2022 unemployment rate was 0.6 percentage point lower than the region’s year ago rate of 2.8 percent. Wakulla County’s unemployment rate remained the lowest in the Capital Region at 1.9 percent, Leon County followed at 2.2 percent, and Gadsden County was at 2.7 percent. There was total of 4,422 unemployed residents in the Capital Region.
 

The top six advertised occupations in the Capital Region in December 2022 were as follows:
 

  • Registered Nurses
  • Software Developers, Applications
  • Sales Representatives, Wholesale & Manufacturing, Except Technical and Scientific Products
  • Managers, All Other
  • Retail Salespersons
  • First-Line Supervisors of Retail Sales Workers

 

CareerSource Capital Region has $275,000 available, through June 30, for eligible individuals who are not in school and are between the ages 16 – 24 to gain work experience and essential skills training through its Learn, Earn and Advance Program (LEAP) paid internships. 

 

CareerSource Capital Region collaborates with employers throughout the region to provide these hands-on, paid internships and otoday’s teens and young adults. Internships pay $11 to $17 per hour.  No experience is necessary.

 

“According to the U.S. Department of Labor, for each year a teenager works, their income increases by 14-16 percent in their 20s. When teens and young adults begin working early in life, they learn how to manage responsibilities and establish a foundation of how the world-of-work, works,” said John Hershey, Managing Director at CareerSource Capital Region.  “And, when they can’t find a job on their own, we’re here to help.  For eligible teens and young adults, we offer paid internships with local employers.  These internships not only provide on-the-job learning and work skills, but they also offer the opportunity for teens and young adults to earn their own money while they learn.”
 

Currently, CareerSource Capital Region has more than 30 paid internships available for eligible teens and young adults.Several of the internship opportunities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Teacher Assistant
  • Front Office Coordinator
  • Construction Assistant
  • Warehouse Associate
  • Marketing Intern
  • Radio Station Account Executive
  • Photographer
