The so-called “Great Resignation” of 2021 saw a record number of people leaving their jobs and reconsidering their career paths in the wake of COVID-19. Thus, in this modern era of recruitment and retention, it’s more important than ever to expand your talent pool to reach the best candidates.  Due to the job market growing at a rapid pace, there’s a greater demand for highly skilled professionals who can bring something new to the table.

Having a diverse workplace fosters greater creativity and innovation.  When you have a more diverse team of employees with different skills and backgrounds, there is an increased opportunity to perform at a higher level. Having a diverse team can introduce broader ideas and more creative and innovative ideas that may not have already been introduced.  Every employee will bring to the organization a unique set of strengths and skills that will help the team perform well and then the team will create a sense of purpose where all members of that team can learn from one another.

When you recruit from untapped talent pools, you may be able to decrease skill shortages that your businesses may currently have. It is essential to think out of the box and consider other options for recruitment.  Often businesses are subject to recruiting for individuals that have post-secondary degrees or those that may have been in the workplace for a very long time.  While post-secondary education can be beneficial in some arenas it is not a necessity on others, as a result employers are missing individuals who can do the work and get the job done, but will be skipped over because they do not have traditional post-secondary education.

Retention can present frightening number to employers.  You want to be careful to hire only the best workers, and once you have them, you want to keep them.
