Career Seeker Tip - Spring 2022

Has your job search stalled? Perhaps it is time to seek professional help. CareerSource Capital Region has Recruiters, Career Navigators, Consultants, Trainers, and Administrators poised and ready to help with your career development and job search.

Another source of help is a professional recruiter. A recruiter can provide job leads and career advice. Many recruiters have access to jobs not listed on job boards. According to roberthalf.com, here are some tips for working with recruiters:

  1. Ask the right questions - Does the recruiter specialize in the industry you work in? How often do they place people in jobs? Can they provide examples of employers that would be interested in hiring you? Does the recruiter market you? How can the recruiter make you more marketable?

  1. Be honest - Be clear about the types of positions you will accept and your salary requirements.

  1. Don’t expect recruiters to do your part - It would be best if you took responsibility for your career search.

  1. Don’t be shy about money - Share your compensation history with the recruiter.

  1. Stay in touch - Do not wait around on the recruiter to reach out to you. Be proactive!

  1. Spread the good news - When you find a great recruiter, share that information with your professional network. It is important to remember that you need to stay in charge of your career journey when working with a recruiter.
