REGIONAL UNEMPLOYMENT RATE ANNOUNCED FOR JANUARY 2017

CareerSource Capital Region Trains Career Seekers to Accommodate Job Growth

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – CareerSource Capital Region CEO Jim McShane announced today that the Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties’ combined unemployment rate was 5.2% in January 2017, according to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. This rate was equal to the state rate for the same period and 0.3% higher than the region’s rate from January 2016. Wakulla County’s unemployment rate remains the lowest in the Capital Region with 4.5%. It was followed by Leon County at 5.1% and Gadsden County at 6.9%. 

In addition to the regional unemployment rate, the Department of Economic Opportunity also provided the following economic indicators for the Capital Region:

  • The Tallahassee MSA had the fastest annual job growth rate compared to all the metro areas in the state in other services (+13.5 percent) in January 2017.

  • Out of a labor force of 184,889, there were 9,628 unemployed residents in the region.

  • The top advertised occupations in our region for January 2017 were as follows in order of the number of online advertisements: Registered Nurses (322 jobs) , First-Line Supervisors for Retail Sales Workers (184 jobs), and First-Line Supervisors for Food Preparation and Serving Workers (111 jobs).
