CAREERSOURCE CAPITAL REGION SHARES REPORT THAT REFLECTS JOB GROWTH IN LOCAL REGION

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – CareerSource Capital Region CEO Jim McShane announced today that the combined unemployment rate for Gadsden, Leon and Wakulla counties dropped to 4.7 percent in October, according to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity. The Tallahassee metro area also gained 1,700 jobs over the year, with the current unemployment rate .6 percentage point lower than the region’s year-ago rate of 5.3 percent.

“Seeing the job growth increase consistently is encouraging,” McShane said. “This year we put strategies in place to help us continue to connect employers to great talent according to their needs.”

In October, CareerSource Capital Region and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity assisted 620 Floridians in finding jobs. So far this year, more than 6,300 individuals utilizing our services and resources have become employed.

The Department of Economic Opportunity also provided more positive economic indicators for the Tallahassee Metropolitan Statistical Area (Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon and Wakulla counties), including:

  • Wakulla County’s unemployment rate (4.3 percent) was the lowest in the CareerSource Capital Region operating area, followed by Leon County (4.5 percent) and Gadsden County (6.3 percent).
  • Nonagricultural employment in the Tallahassee metro area was 176,800 in October 2015, an increase of 1.0 percent from a year ago.
  • In October 2015, the Tallahassee metro area led all metro areas in Florida in annual job growth rate in trade, transportation and utilities.
  • The metro area’s over-the-year growth rate in leisure and hospitality (+8.5 percent) was stronger than the statewide growth rate in that industry.
