CAREERSOURCE CAPITAL REGION RECEIVES FUNDING FOR NATIONAL EMERGENCY GRANT

Grant will provide temporary employment to Floridians affected by Hurricane Michael

Tallahassee, Fla. – In October of 2018, former Governor Rick Scott announced that Florida was awarded a National Emergency Grant (NEG) to provide temporary employment to Floridians affected by Hurricane Michael. CareerSource Capital Region was one of four workforce boards to receive funding through this grant which provides disaster relief employment in the form of temporary jobs that support of storm recovery efforts.

CareerSource Capital Region was awarded $200,000.00 to assist disaster relief victims with employment opportunities and government and non-profit organizations with projects that have a focus on providing food, clothing, shelter and other humanitarian help.

“We are very thankful that former Governor Rick Scott awarded our region this grant,” said Jim McShane, CEO of CareerSource Capital Region. “We have neighbors, especially in Gadsden and Wakulla counties, who have been severely impacted by the hurricane.  These temporary jobs will allow individuals to learn new skills and provide for their families again. Ultimately, our goal is to also help people find permanent employment in the Capital Region.”

Individuals who qualify for disaster relief employment are those who are temporarily or permanently laid off as a consequence of Hurricane Michael, dislocated workers including the self-employed who have lost work due to the hurricane and individuals who have been unemployed long-term.

Temporary positions available through the grant involve working at approved governmental or non-profit agencies. Duties of these temporary positions may include administrative, clerical, janitorial and building maintenance.

Individuals who have lost their job as a result of Hurricane Michael should create a profile in Employ Florida: www.employflorida.com and upload a copy of their resume.
