CAPITAL REGION UNEMPLOYMENT RATE DROPS TO 5.1 PERCENT

CareerSource Capital Region hosts Gadsden County job fair to connect employers and residents

 

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity, Bureau of Labor Market Statistics released Florida’s unemployment rates for March 2015. The combined unemployment rate in the counties served by CareerSource Capital Region, (Gadsden, Leon, and Wakulla counties) was 5.1 percent in March 2015. This was 0.8 percentage points lower than the region’s year‐ago rate of 5.9 percent, and 0.4 percentage points below the January 2015 state rate of 5.5 percent. Employment in leisure and hospitality (+10.1 percent); retail trade (+7.2 percent); trade, transportation, and utilities, and professional and business services (+6.6 percent each); and other services (+5.6 percent) grew faster in the metro area than statewide.

On April 28, CareerSource Capital Region will team-up with the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners and State Representative Alan Williams to bring a job fair to local residents and employers in Gadsden County. The 2015 Gadsden County Job Fair will feature local Gadsden county employers seeking candidates for current job vacancies and will provide them with targeted workforce solutions. Gadsden County’s unemployment rate at 7.1 percent, was the highest in the region, followed by Leon County at 4.9 percent, and Wakulla County at 4.6 percent.

Job seekers still have one more opportunity to take advantage of the signature “Working a Job Fair” workshop offered by CareerSource Capital Region’s Gadsden County Career Center on Wednesday April 22.   At the workshop, job seekers can pick up some great tips on how to work a job fair, develop an effective elevator speech, and create a strategy for making a great first impression. During the job fair, free transportation will be provided by Big Bend Transit, with shuttles running every 30 minutes beginning at 9:00 am. Jobseekers planning to attend are required to dress professionally, register as a job seeker at www.EmployFlorida.com and bring several copies of their resume to the job fair.

“We haven’t hosted a job fair in Gadsden county since 2009, but we are encouraged by the employers who have already signed up and the positions they are looking to fill in the Gadsden County community,” said Kara Palmer, director of client services and advancement.  “We are looking forward to being able to connect local employers looking to hire Gadsden County job seekers through this job fair.”
